Townhall Meeting Talking Points |
|
INVITE YOUR LOCAL MEDIA TO A TOWN HALL MEETING We encourage you to contact local media about the town hall meeting in your area. Below is a link to a media advisory you can use to notify local print, radio or television. The current media advisory is specific to the Charlotte town hall meeting. However, as each town hall approaches, we will update the media advisory. (The Coalition has also issued a press release, so media in your area may be aware of the event– but a local invitation from you is still important). www.ncsapa.org/charlotte-townhall-media-advisory DELIVERING YOUR MESSAGE AT A TOWN HALL MEETING In addition to providing an outlet for people to speak out, town hall meetings are also a great opportunity to share your message with media and decision-makers– specifically the legislators who will vote on next year’s budget. We encourage you to share your compelling personal stories– they best illustrate the impact of budget cuts on individual lives. Messages that make the most impact are ones that share a common thread. It’s important to have a strong message that is concise and simple. The goal is to create good soundbites that are REPEATED across the series of town halls. We’ve provided talking points below that are specific to the Substance Abuse community. As you consider what you will say, or prepare others in your community to speak, please keep these points in mind and try to incorporate them into your comments. SUBSTANCE ABUSE TALKING POINTS: 1.
