Invite your elected official to a town hall meeting

Thank you for inviting elected officials in your community to a town hall meeting.  It’s a simple action that will make a huge difference.  We’ve provided a calling script and sample email for you to cut and paste to send to elected officials.  Please feel free to edit either as you wish.

We’ve also included links to contact information for state legislators in your area.  If there are other elected officials we’ve haven’t listed here that you think should be included, please do contact them as well.

Phone Script:

Hello, my name is [your name] and I am calling from [your city/town].  I’d like to invite [elected official's name] to a town hall meeting on substance abuse, mental health and developmental disabilities on [event date]  in [event city] from 6:30-8:30pm at [event location]

I’m concerned about substance abuse services in our community and as a constituent of [elected official's name], it is important to me that [he/she] attend this meeting.

Thank you for your time. I hope [elected official's name] will be able to join us.

I am concerned about issues related to substance abuse services in our community.  The Coalition– 40 organizations advocating together to meet the needs of North Carolinians living with developmental disabilities and the diseases of addiction and mental illness —is hosting a town hall meeting on [event date] from 6:30-8:30pm at [location] to discuss my concerns.

As one of your constituents, it’s important to me that you, or a representative from your office attends this event. Will you join us?
