Attorney General Roy Cooper will visit South Mecklenburg High School in Charlotte to kick off a statewide contest to fight prescription drug abuse on Wednesday.
Cooper is partnering with the National Association of Drug Diversion Investigators, the North Carolina Association of Pharmacists, and the Governor’s Institute on Substance Abuse to sponsor a statewide student video competition to help educate young people about the dangers of prescription drug abuse. Prescription drugs are the second most abused drug among young people ages 12-17.
Cooper will talk to students about the contest and the dangers of prescription drug abuse and misuse. Also speaking to the students will be a former prescription drug addict, a man who lost two nephews to prescription drug overdose, and an SBI agent who investigates prescription drug crimes.
The kick off started in the auditorium of South Mecklenburg High School in Charlotte, located at 8900 Park Road.
