“Understanding the Brain and Addiction: Treatment and Current Trends” Facilitated by Dr. James Finch

Overview and Objectives:

  • Outline the current understanding of the neurophysiologic mechanisms underlying addictive behaviors.
  • Understand the adaptive process at work during recurrent drug use as well as during recovery from addiction.
  • Understand the role of medication assisted treatment (MAT) as it applies to these neuro-adaptive processes during the treatment and maintenance of recovery.
  • Recognize the scope and seriousness of the current patterns of opiod abuse as a public health problem.
  • Outline prescription drug abuse trends in NC and current statewide initiatives.
